Baseball Drops Pair at Shorter

ROME, Ga. – The Auburn Montgomery baseball team dropped both games of their Gulf South Conference doubleheader at Shorter University on Friday, March 26, falling 14-1 in game one and 5-2 in game two.

With the losses, AUM's record now sits at 13-12 overall and 11-12 in GSC play.

GAME ONE
Casey Henderson led AUM in game one, going 2-3 with an RBI double. Quinterrious Arrington added a hit and a run scored.

Hunter Viets (2-5) took the loss on the mound. The sophomore righty surrendered six runs over 4.2 innings while striking out three.

Shelton Clevenger, Jake Chase, Tommy Vickers and Blake Sheffer combined to toss the final inning and a third for AUM.

Shorter set the tone early in game one by plating four runs over their first two at-bats. The Hawks struck for three runs on four hits in inning number one and a run on two hits in the second to go up 4-0.

The Warhawks would hold Shorter scoreless from then until inning number five when the Hawks pushed across four two-out runs on the back of an RBI double, followed by a three-RBI double, to go up 8-0.

AUM went on to score their lone run of the game in the top of the sixth on C. Henderson's RBI double, bout would go on to concede six more runs to the Hawks in the bottom half of the frame. Shorter took advantage of a pair of RBI singles, a two-RBI double, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI fielders choice to tally their total in the sixth.

GAME TWO
Corey Armstrong and C. Henderson both led AUM with a pair of hits in game two, with Armstrong driving in a run.

Joseph Hartsfield accounted for a hit and an RBI while Mario Galloway and Arrington both logged a run and a hit. Galloway slugged AUM's lone double in game two, while Arrington swiped his GSC-best 14th bag of the season.

Micah Henderson (5-2) took the loss on the mound. The senior right-hander fanned three hitters over 6.1 innings while allowing five earned runs. Sam Steigert and Logan Coleman combined to give up no runs on just one hit over the final 1.2 innings out of the bullpen.

The Warhawks struck first in game two, courtesy of a two-out RBI single in the second by Hartsfield that plated Galloway and put AUM up 1-0. Galloway reached via a fielder's choice, followed by a single to center from Jackson Ceman that helped set up the RBI opportunity for Hartsfield.

Shorter tied up the contest at 1-1 in the fourth via a solo blast, but the Warhawks would retake the lead 2-1 their next time up in the top of the fifth on a Shorter throwing error that would bring in Arrington.

The Hawks responded with runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to increase their lead to 5-2. Shorter grounded into a double play in the fifth that brought home a run, belted a pair of solo home runs in the sixth, and recorded an RBI double in the seventh.

AUM batted just .190 (11-58) on the day while stranding 16 base runners over the course of the twin bill.

The Warhawks will wrap up their series at Shorter with game three on Saturday, March 27. First pitch from Rome, Ga. is set for 11:00 a.m. (CST).
