AUM jumped on Shorter early by hanging up a three-spot in the first. Pritchett drove in Arrington and C. Henderson, who led off the game with a pair of base hits, via a double to left while Galloway recorded an RBI fielder's choice to account for the damage.
Shorter would retaliate in their next at-bat, however, knocking a two-run homer and an RBI double in the bottom half of the first to even the game at 3-3.
The 3-3 score would hold all the way until the bottom of the fifth, when the Hawks tallied a pair via an RBI single and an AUM fielding error to go up 5-3. A one-out walk and hit batsman helped set up scoring opportunities for Shorter.
The Warhawks loaded up the bases to begin the top of the eight, with Wells tying the game up at five-all with a pinch-hit, two RBI knock to right field. Arrington would follow suit with the go-ahead base hit to make it 6-5, followed by a sacrifice fly from Pritchett to put the Warhawks up 7-5.
The Warhawks outhit the Hawks 13-8 on the day, batting .333 (13-39) overall and .400 (8-20) with runners on base.
AUM pitching issued out just three free passes on the day while striking out nine and inducing nine ground-ball outs. The Warhawk staff allowed just one leadoff base runner during the game while stranding five Hawks on base.
The Warhawks will take a two-week hiatus from action before returning to the diamond on Saturday, April 10 against Delta State for a Gulf South Conference doubleheader. First pitch from Q.V. Lowe Field is slated for 1:00 p.m.
