Baseball Takes Game Two to Salvage Doubleheader Split with Delta State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. –The Auburn Montgomery baseball team fell 14-5 in game one of their Gulf South Conference doubleheader with Delta State but responded with an 11-5 win in game two over the Statesmen to split their Saturday, April 11 twin bill from Q.V. Lowe Field.

With the split, AUM's record now sits at 15-13 overall and 13-13 in GSC play. The Statesmen sit at 17-11 overall and 14-11 in GSC action.

GAME ONE
Grayson Blackwell led AUM at the plate in game one, driving in three runs on a pair of hits with two runs scored. The senior first baseman launched his second home run of the season in game one.

Quinterrious Arrington and Casey Henderson both knocked a pair of hits in game one, with Arrington scoring a run.  Zach Feaster and Joseph Hartsfield both logged a hit and an RBI, with Feaster additionally scoring a run.

Troy Jones struck out three batters over six innings of work while allowing five runs in a no-decision. Tyler Britton (0-1) took the loss in game one as a result of allowing a pair of runs to come across the plate in the sixth.

The Statesmen broke the scoreless tie in the third by scoring on an AUM wild pitch, and would go on to score three runs in the fourth via a solo shot and a pair of RBI singles to take an early 4-0 lead.

AUM scratched their first run of the game in the fifth, when Hartsfield would bring home Blackwell on an RBI single to make it 4-1.

Delta State would go on to score another run in the top of the sixth to make it 5-1, but AUM would respond with a four-spot in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 5-5 game. Feaster plated the inning's first run with an RBI single to right, followed by a three-run blast from Blackwell to tie the game at five-all.

DSU would ultimately put the game out of hand over their next three at-bats by plating nine runs, including five runs in inning number eight. Logan Coleman, Jake Chase, and Blake Sheffer each tossed an inning of relief for AUM over the final three frames.

The Statesmen outhit AUM in game one 19-10 and left 15 runners on base. The Warhawks stranded five runners in game number one.

GAME TWO
Arrington drove in a career-high four runs for AUM on two hits in game two, with three runs scored and a stolen base. The senior outfielder accounted for one of four AUM extra-base hits on the day with his second triple of the season.

Mario Galloway knocked a team-high three hits, in addition to driving in a pair and scoring once.

Jackson Ceman and Feaster both collected two RBI's on two hits with a run scored. Ceman also slugged a pair of RBI doubles for the Orange and Black.

Will Collins struck out a pair while allowing two earned runs over 1.2 innings. Jax Morris recorded the final four outs of the game for AUM to help secure the win.

AUM drew first blood in game two when they took a 1-0 lead in inning number one on an RBI single from Feaster. Delta State would have an answer over their next two at-bats, however, plating a pair of unearned runs in the second and an earned run in the third on an RBI single to go up 3-1.

After cutting their deficit to just 3-2 in the fourth on an RBI single from Galloway, the Warhawks would erupt for six runs in inning number six to go up 8-3. RBI singles from Galloway and Blackwell, a two-RBI single from Arrington, an RBI double from Ceman, and an RBI single from Feaster would account for the damage in the frame.

AUM added three more in the seventh, with Arrington providing the big blow on an RBI triple to right to put the Warhawks up 10-3. Ceman would follow suit with another RBI double to bring home Arrington and put AUM on top 11-3.

The Statesmen were able to tally two runs in the eighth to make things interesting, but Morris would bring all the momentum back to AUM's side with a bases-loaded strikeout to end the eighth, followed by a scoreless ninth inning to clinch the victory.
