Baseball Topped in Series Finale at Union

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Auburn Montgomery baseball team fell 12-8 in the third and final game of their Gulf South Conference series against Union University on Sunday, March 7.

The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for AUM and brings their record to 9-7 overall and 8-7 in GSC play. Union improves to 7-6 overall and 6-6 in conference action.

Mario Galloway led AUM offensively, slugging a career-high four base hits in the setback. The sophomore outfielder also scored twice in the game.

Casey Henderson accounted for two hits, two RBI's, and a triple while Corey Armstrong and Jackson Ceman both logged a pair of runs on two hits and an RBI.

Sage Smelley knocked a pair of hits while Joseph Hartsfield added a run and a hit and Zach Feaster recorded two RBI's and a hit.

Troy Jones (0-2) took the loss on the mound in game three. Jones surrendered four earned over four frames with three strikeouts.

Logan Coleman tossed a pair of scoreless innings out of the bullpen, striking out two.

Union jumped on AUM early, scoring four runs in the first on a pair of two-RBI doubles.

The Warhawks would eventually tie the game up, plating a run in the second on an RBI knock from Armstrong and then getting three in the fourth via an RBI single from Ceman and a two-RBI triple from C. Henderson.

The Bulldogs would gain momentum back in the fifth, however, by plating four runs on four hits and capitalizing on a pair of AUM errors.

After seeing Union add another run in the seventh to go up 9-5, AUM retaliated with two runs in the eighth to cut their deficit to just 9-7. An Arrington RBI groundout, followed by a two- RBI single by Feaster accounted for the damage in the inning.

The Bulldogs added three important insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth on a three-run blast to go up 12-7. The Warhawks added a run in the ninth before running out of outs and giving way to the 12-8 final score.

Despite being outscored 12-8, the Warhawks outhit Union 14-11 on the day. AUM stranded 12 base runners, while the Bulldogs left 11 on base in the game.

The baseball team will be back in action on Tuesday, March 9 against Tuskegee University. First pitch from Q.V. Lowe Field is set for 4:00 p.m.
