Both teams brought across runs in the fifth, with DSU getting a pair on an RBI fielder's choice and an RBI double and AUM scoring once on an RBI single from C. Henderson to make it a 7-3 game.
The Statesmen would then go on to put the game out of reach with a two-run seventh and a four-run eighth to go up 13-3. DSU used a two-run homer in the seventh and a pair of two-RBI doubles in the eighth to account for the damage.
AUM would go on to tally a pair in the bottom of the eighth via Smelley's two-RBI double to make it 13-5, but Delta State would answer back with a pair of runs in the top of the ninth before giving way to the 15-5 final score.
The AUM baseball team will return to action on Friday, April 16 for game one of their three-game GSC set at Mississippi College. First pitch from Clinton, Miss. is set for 6:00 p.m.
