Women’s Soccer Drops Conference Opener to Mississippi College

MONTGOMERY, Ala. –The Auburn Montgomery women's soccer team fell 4-1 to the Lady Choctaws of Mississippi College on Friday, Sept. 17 to open up Gulf South Conference play.

With the loss, AUM's record falls to 2-2-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in GSC action.

The Lady Choctaws found the back of the net thrice in half number one, with their first goal coming in minute number 14 from Beatrice Curry after her initial shot was corralled by AUM keeper Karla Gaytan and rebounded to Curry's foot.

Emily McNair punched in the Lady Choctaws second tally in the 28th minute, followed by an AUM own goal in minute number 39 to make it 3-0.

The Lady Choctaws would get their final goal in minute number 49 from Erin Hederman before the Warhawks struck pay dirt in the 74th minute to make it 4-1. Anila Mantello facilitated the goal by sending a high-arching free kick into the box that found the head of Ariel Jones for her first goal of the season.

The Lady Choctaws outshot AUM 31-5, with AUM accounting for a pair of shots on goal. Gaby Walker led AUM with two shots taken on the night while Kailyn Borngesser and Jones both registered a shot on frame.

In goal, Gaytan grabbed a season-high 15 saves for AUM, upping her season-save total to a GSC-best 35. The junior keeper's record falls to 2-2-0 with the setback.

The women's soccer team will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 17 when they host Delta State. Kickoff from the AUM Soccer Complex is set for 1:00 p.m.
