ALBANY, Ga. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory at Albany State on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
With the win, AUM improves to 9-6 on the season. The Warhawks took set one 27-25, set two 25-15, and set three 25-22.
Isadora Nicolai led AUM with a game-high 23 assists and 11 digs, marking for the senior setter's fourth-consecutive double-double and eighth of 2021.
Keren Santana and
Carla Butler both led AUM with nine kills while
Amber Bretwisch added 13 assists and
Reann Cato (16) and
Berkleigh Davidson (12) both posted double-digit digs.
AUM trailed by as many as five points in set number one, but would rally on the heels of a 9-4 run to tie the match at 17-all after being down 13-8. The two sides battled back-and-fourth over the set's final rallies until the Warhawks tallied the set's final three points to claim the first at 27-25.
The Warhawks came out swinging in set number two by notching 11 of the set's first 15 points to grab a comfortable 11-4 lead and pave the way for a 25-15 win. AUM converted on 16 of 35 attacks (40 %) in the second set, led by Santana and Butler's four kills each.
The third and final set saw both teams trade points all the way to a 19-19 tied score, when AUM would go on a 6-3 run to close out the set 25-22 and claim the match.
The Warhawks posted 44 kills as a team in the victory, compared to just 26 from Albany State, for a hitting percentage of .228. AUM amassed six blocks, 40 assists and 69 total digs on the evening.
Tuesday's contest featured 23 tied scores and nine total lead changes.
The volleyball team will play in their 2021 home opener on Friday, Oct. 1 against Gulf South Conference foe West Alabama. First serve from the AUM Gymnasium is set for 6:00 p.m. (CST).
