Men’s Basketball Knocked off at West Georgia, 86-76

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Auburn Montgomery Men's Basketball Team dropped an 86-76 road Gulf South Conference contest at West Georgia on Wednesday, Jan. 19 to fall to 6-11 overall and 3-6 in GSC action.
 
Jeremiah Bozeman led a trio of Warhawks that scored in double figures with a career-best 27 points. The senior guard pulled down a team-high five rebounds and converted on 14 of 17 foul shots.
 
 James Graham accounted for 17 points, four rebounds, and three blocks while Sam Youngblood posted 13 points. Isaiah Hart dished out a team-high five assists while also scoring nine points.
 
The Warhawks started off red-hot, sinking eight of their first ten field goals to jump out a commanding 16-4 lead a the 14:24 mark in the first.
 
AUM stayed on top for the majority of the first half by multiple possessions until a 7-0 run by the Wolves over a minute and a half span brought the score to 32-29 in favor of AUM with 1:29 to go until halftime. From there, AUM would outscore UWG 5-4 to take a 37-33 lead into the break.
 
AUM outscored UWG 8-6 over the first three and half minutes of the second half, with a jumper by Hart at the 16:33 mark putting the Warhawks up 45-39. West Georgia would rally with a quick 8-2 run over the next minute and a half, however, to tie the score at 47-all at the 14:10 mark.
 
Both teams would settle into a groove over the next seven minutes, with AUM edging West Georgia 19-17 and knocking down sixty percent of its field goals to lead 66-64 with 6:21 to play. The Wolves shot 50 percent from the floor over that time while knocking down all six of their free-throw attempts.
 
West Georgia turned up the intensity on both sides of the ball over the final six minutes of action, converting on eight of 11 field goals and holding the Warhawks to just two of eight from the floor as part of a 22-10 run to close out the contest. AUM got back to within four points after a layup from Hart with 51 seconds left made it 80-76, but the Wolves would hold their ground and hang on for the victory.
 
AUM finished the night just under 51 percent (28-55) on all field goals, marking for the third time that the Warhawks shot 50 percent or better from the field in a game this season. The Orange and Black held West Georgia to just 38 percent (13-34) from the floor in the first half, but a 59 percent (19-32) shooting second half set UWG up to finish shooting 48 percent (32-66) for the evening.
 
The Warhawks additionally tallied 36 points in the paint, 18 points off of turnovers, and 11 second-chance points. Wednesday's contest featured seven lead changes and six tied scores.
 
The men's basketball team will return home on Saturday, Jan. 22 for a GSC tilt with Alabama Huntsville at 4:00 p.m. from the AUM gymnasium.
