Men’s Basketball Charges Past UAH in Double Overtime, 107-97

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – With just seven players available to play, the Auburn Montgomery Men's Basketball Team willed its way to a gritty 107-97 double-overtime Gulf South Conference victory against Alabama Huntsville on Saturday, Jan. 22.

The win improves AUM's record to 7-11 overall and 4-6 in Gulf South Conference play.

Four of the Warhawks' seven players scored in double figures while three logged 20 or more points. Jeremiah Bozeman led the way with a career-high 30 points on a 9-13 shooting night. The senior guard knocked down a career-best five three-pointers while also hauling in four rebounds and six steals.

Isaiah Hart registered 26 points with a game-high eight assists while Jelal Williams accounted for a career-best 20 points with six rebounds.

James Graham additionally scored in double figures with a 15-point performance while Deven Tucker and Roderick Smith each pulled down a team-high eight boards. Freshman Zameron Boozer added three points and three rebounds in his home AUM debut.

Both teams notched nine points over the first three and a half minutes, with a Tucker Layup at the 16:31 mark making the score nine-all.

UAH went on to knock down its next four field goals as part of a 12-3 run to go up 21-12, but AUM would respond with nine unanswered to tie the score at 21-all with 10:50 to go in the first.

The Chargers maintained a lead between one and three possessions for the remainder of the half, but a steal turned fast-break layup by Hart at the buzzer sent the Warhawks into the half down by just two at 46-44.

AUM outscored UAH 7-5 over the first five minutes of the second half to see a tied score of 51-all at the 15:18 mark. From there, the Warhawks tallied eight of the game's next ten points to lead 59-53 with 12:19 to play.

The Chargers chipped away at AUM's lead and would eventually tie up the score at 64-all with 4:37 to go. Both teams would trade field goals over the game's final four minutes until the Warhawks took a 76-73 lead with 24 seconds to play after a pair of Hart free throws.

UAH would respond on their next possession, however, by sinking three shots from the free throw line following a Warhawk shooting foul from beyond the arc. AUM would get the final shot of regulation, but a tightly-contested jumper from Bozeman would fall short to force overtime.

The first overtime would see the Chargers outscore AUM 12-6 over the first four minutes, a span in which UAH went a perfect 4-4 from the floor. The Warhawks fought back to score the final five points of the period, including a three from Bozeman with 26 seconds left to tie the game and force a second overtime.

The Warhawks caught fire in the second overtime, sinking five of their seven field-goal attempts and outscoring UAH 18-8. AUM went a perfect 3-3 on treys and 5-5 from the charity stripe in OT period number two to put the game away.

AUM finished the night at 54 percent (36-66) from the field, shooting 62 percent (15-24) in the first half and 52 percent (13-25) in the second.

The Warhawks posted 46 points in the paint and matched a season-high with 46 rebounds in the victory. AUM also registered 22 points off of turnovers, 16 fast-break points and 15 second-chance points.

Saturday's contest featured 17 lead changes and 11 tied scores.

The men's basketball team will be back in action at home on Thursday, Jan. 27 for an 8:00 p.m. GSC matchup with Christian Brothers from the AUM Gymnasium.
