Warhawks Fall Short At Home Against #25 Lee

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team fell at home to Gulf South Conference foe and nationally-ranked Lee University on Sunday afternoon 79-70 to open the new year.

AUM drops to 5-6 on the year and remains winless in conference action with an 0-5 mark. Lee, meanwhile, improves to 11-3 on the year with a 4-2 record in conference action.

AUM was led offensively by their guards. Catlin Carter was the team leader in points with 16, while rookie Allasha Dudley posted 14. In addition, Tuskegee transfer Tamia Willingham-King posted an AUM career-best 12 points in the effort.

Lee came out hot early in the first quarter, jumping on the scoreboard to the tune of a 9-2 lead to open the game. AUM would respond with Carter's help and go on a 7-2 run to trail by two at the first media timeout. AUM's offense did not waiver to end the quarter, as they ended the first period on a 9-2 run to lead 18-15 after 10 minutes of action.

The start of the second quarter featured a more defensive style of play. It wasn't until the end of the second quarter that both teams started to get going offensively. Still, the Warhawks outscored the Lady Flames 16-14 in the quarter, allowing AUM to build a 34-29 lead at halftime.

Lee scored the first five points of the third quarter, but the Warhawks were able to answer with six straight of their own to keep the lead over the Lady Flames. A 3-pointer with under three minutes to go in the third from Lee gave them their first lead since the first quarter, but a late layup from Carter tied the game at 53 going into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter featured both teams trading points until the last minute. The game saw itself tied at 62 with 3:28 left after a pair of free throws from Jordan Brewster. A Dudley 3-pointer gave AUM a 65-64 lead, but Lee would reclaim a 3-point advantage with 1:36 left. The Lady Flames held the Warhawk offense in check for the remainder of the game and escaped Montgomery with a 79-70 win.

The Warhawks will hit the road for the first time in 2022 for their next game. The team will travel to Memphis, Tennessee, to take on Christian Brothers on Thursday, January 6 at 5 p.m. Fans will not be permitted into the game against the Lady Bucs.
