Women’s Hoops Falls Short Against Lady Bucs 79-84

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team fell on the road 79-84 to Gulf South Conference foe Christian Brothers on Thursday night in an empty arena due to COVID protocols.

The Warhawks drop to 5-7 on the year with an 0-6 record in GSC action. The Lady Bucs take their third conference victory of the season and improve to 4-9 on the year.

With a short bench against the Lady Bucs, the Warhawks had four players score at least 10 points in the game, with Catlin Carter leading the way with a season-high 27 points. Allasha Dudley and Jamya Tyus had 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Bucs controlled the game's tempo to start the first quarter, leading 9-5 through the first four minutes of action. A Carter jumper tied the game at 11 two minutes later, and a Gracie Lee free-throw would give AUM a 15-13 lead after a quarter of play.

Christian Brothers used a big second quarter to extend their lead over AUM to try to put the game away early. However, with the game tied at 25 with four minutes to go in the period, the Lady Bucs went on a 13-1 run to lead 37-26 at halftime.

AUM's offense remained stagnant to begin the third quarter, as CBU's lead would grow to as much as 22 with 4:11 left in the third. However, 3-pointers from Dudley and Jordan Brewster would help cut down the lead slightly, but the Lady Bucs were left with a 13-point lead after 30 minutes of play.

Senior forward Demaurea Moore set the tone to begin the fourth quarter and aided the Warhawks' comeback. A 3-pointer from Carter with 8:23 left on the clock brought the game to within six for AUM, and another three from Dudley cut the CBU lead to two with 3:02 remaining.

Carter would cut down the Lady Bucs' lead from five to three after a layup with 1:31 to go and hit another big 3-pointer down the stretch to cut the deficit to four with 36 seconds left. However, CBU hit their free-throws and were able to cement an 84-79 win over AUM.

The Warhawks will remain on the road in Tennessee for their next game on Saturday when they take on No. 20 Union in Jackson. The action against the Lady Bulldogs is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
