MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery Men's Basketball Team battled to the buzzer and were led by a 34-point performance from
Isaiah Hart, but ultimately fell 86-83 to (RV) Union on Saturday, Jan. 29.
The loss drops AUM's record to 7-13 overall and 4-8 in Gulf South Conference play.
Hart's career-high 34 came on a 14-22 shooting night. The senior guard also dished out a game-high five assists and pulled down four rebounds.
James Graham (16) and
Jeremiah Bozeman (14) both also scored in double figures, with Graham hauling in four rebounds and Bozeman finishing with a pair of rebounds and steals.
Zameron Boozer led AUM in rebounding with a career-high six while
Strahinja Ivic contributed a career-high eight points.
AUM knocked down five of its first six shots in the game to take a 12-4 lead after a jumper from Hart at the 16:55 mark. Union would fight back to make it 16-12, and with the score reading 22-14 in AUM's favor, the Bulldogs would score 16 unanswered points to go up 30-22 with 5:30 left in the first.
The Warhawks answered with 11 straight points to go back up 33-30 and ended the half with a successful half-court heave from Hart to beat the buzzer and give AUM a 38-32 lead at halftime.
AUM edged Union 13-12 over the first four minutes of the second to hold a 51-44 lead at the 15:55 mark after a trey from Hart. The Warhawks held their lead all the way until the 10:31 mark when a driving layup put the Bulldogs up 64-63 with 10:31 to go.
The two teams battled back and fourth over the final six minutes, with Union extending its lead to two possessions after a pair of free throws made the score 81-76 in the Bulldog's favor.
Both teams continued to trade baskets over the final minute. After a pair of free throws from the Bulldogs made the score 86-83 with seven seconds left to play, the Warhawks were unsuccessful in scoring the game-tying basket in their final possession.
AUM finished the day shooting 48 percent (33-68) from the floor, highlighted by an efficiency of 56 percent (18-32) in the second. The Warhawks shot 43 percent (7-16) from three and 91 percent (10-11) from the charity stripe.
The Warhawks additionally tallied 36 points in the paint, 15 points off of turnovers, 14 second-chance points, and 14 bench points. Saturday's contest featured nine lead changes and four tied scores.
The men's basketball team will play its third home game in five days on Monday, Jan. 31 when they welcome Mississippi College to the AUM Gymnasium for an 8:00 p.m. (CST) GSC bout.
