Second-Half Surge Sends Warhawks Past MC, 68-60

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery Men's Basketball Team shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half while putting up 42 points to help guide them to a 68-60 Gulf South Conference victory over Mississippi College on Monday, Jan. 31.

The win improves AUM's record to 8-13 overall and 5-8 in GSC action.

Jeremiah Bozeman led the Warhawks with 22 points on a 6-10 shooting night. The senior guard also grabbed six rebounds while going seven of 12 from the free throw line and 3-5 from three.

Roderick Smith logged his first career double-double for AUM with a 10-point, 10-rebound performance. Isaiah Hart registered 15 points with a 9-10 clip from the free throw line while James Graham added eight points and nine rebounds.

The Warhawks knocked down four of their first six shots to take an 11-2 lead after a Deven Tucker free throw at the 14:39 mark.

MC would answer with an 8-3 run over the next two minutes to make it just a 14-10 AUM advantage. They would eventually tie the game up at 22-all after a layup at the 1:57 mark before seeing a halftime score of 26-24 in favor of the Warhawks.

AUM outscored MC 18-16 over the first 10 minutes of the second, with the score reading 42-42 after a Choctaw layup at the 9:43 mark. From there, the Warhawks would go on to knock down three of their next five and all seven free throw attempts as part of a 13-2 run over the next four minutes to go up 55-44 with 4:51 to play.

The Choctaws responded, however, with a 16-8 run over the next three and a half minutes to trim the Warhawks' lead to just 63-60 at the 1:25 mark. Bozeman would go on to deliver the dagger with a right-wing three-pointer on the ensuing possession, followed by a pair of free throws from him with 33 seconds left to ice the game.

AUM's hot-shooting second half helped up its field goal percentage to right under 40 percent (17-43) for the night. The Warhawks converted on 40 percent (4-10) of their threes and sank a season high 30 free throws on 40 attempts for a mark of 75 percent.

The men's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 5 when they take on Lee University at 3:00 p.m. (CST) from Cleveland, Tenn.
