Volleyball Takes Down Lee 3-0 in GSC Play

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over the Lee University Lady Flames on Friday afternoon inside the AUM Athletics Complex in a Gulf South Conference match. 

Kendall McCain led the way tallying 14 points and 11 kills. Amber Bretwisch led the team with 17 assist and added seven digs. Ylenia De Mango had 12 kills and scored 13.5 points.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Warhawks won a back-and-forth set 26-24. AUM led the 22-19 and Lee came back to tie the set at 24 a piece. The Warhawks scored back-to-back points off a kill from Giulia Santuari and on an attack error. 
  • In the second set, The Lady Flames led 15-11 and AUM responded with a 7-2 run and managed to get the win 25-22. 
  • The third set was much like the first set until the score was tied at 12-12. The Warhawks scored seven straight points to have a 19-12 advantage which sent the Warhawks to a 25-16. 
STATS OF THE MATCH
  • AUM outscored Lee 76-62 in the match. 
  • The Warhawks tallied 48 kills compared to the 40 that Lee had. 
  • Auburn Montgomery had 40 digs in the match. 
  • De Mango totaled 20 total attacks and had 12 kills. 
  • Bretwisch and Savannah Sebek had 33 total assists. 
  • AUM finished the match with a hitting percentage of .343 which is the second most of the season.

"Ylenia and Giulia did a phenomenal job for us in the front row. It helped us set the pace of the match," head volleyball coach Flavia Siqueira said. "I felt our defense could have been a little bit better, but I am proud that we got the win in an important conference match at home."

The Warhawks return to the AUM Athletics Complex on Saturday against Shorter University at 2 p.m. in Gulf South Conference play.
