MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team dropped a home Gulf South Conference Contest to Valdosta State 59-46 on Thursday night.
AUM falls to 6-13 on the year while Valdosta State, who received votes in the latest national polls, improves to 18-4 overall with a 13-2 record in GSC action, which is good for second place.
Senior guard Catlin Carter led the Warhawks on offense against Valdosta State, scoring 15 points, while freshman Allasha Dudley netted 12 points and eight rebounds. Her action on the glass led the team.
The Warhawks' shooting started hot in the first quarter as the Orange & Black connected on five of their first 10 baskets to race out to a 12-7 lead over the Lady Blazers in the first quarter before the media timeout. Both teams would go cold from the floor after the media break, resulting in a 14-9 AUM lead after 10 minutes of action.
Valdosta State started to find their offensive groove to start the second quarter, posting a 5-0 run to cut their deficit to two points, 18-16. The Lady Blazer run stretched to as much as 11-2 before a layup from Dudley tied the game at 20. The Warhawks were outscored 20-10 in the second quarter and trailed 29-24 at the end of the first half.
Dudley opened the scoring in the second half after more than three minutes of scoreless basketball when she converted a three-point play to cut the Valdosta State lead to two. The Lady Blazers followed the cold spell with a 13-0 run to extend their lead to 42-27 over AUM.
Valdosta State was able to stretch their lead to begin the fourth quarter, taking the first four points to run their advantage to 51-34. The Lady Blazers continued to offensive pressure in the fourth quarter, earning a road win by the score of 59-46.
The Warhawks will return to action on Saturday for the 2022 Homecoming game. AUM will face Gulf South Conference foe West Florida from the AUM Gymnasium at 2 p.m.
