Women’s Basketball Drops Home GSC Contest To West Florida

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team suffered a 62-56 home loss to Gulf South Conference foe West Florida on Saturday afternoon at the AUM Gymnasium.

The Warhawks fall to 6-14 on the year with a 1-13 record in conference action. West Florida continues to rise toward the top of the conference standings and now sits at 17-6 on the year with an 11-5 mark in GSC action.

Freshman standout Allasha Dudley led the team in points against the Argos, netting 18 scores to go along with six rebounds that were second on the team to fellow rookie Kailyn Farrell who totaled seven boards.

AUM raced out of the gates in the first quarter with a burst of energy that resulted in an early 7-3 lead for the Warhawks. The Argos responded with a 7-0 run of their own to take a 10-7 lead over AUM after the media timeout. The two sides traded buckets down the stretch of the first period, but a late basket from Farrell ran the score to 18-16 in favor of West Florida after 10 minutes of play.

After West Florida stretched their lead to four early in the second, AUM responded with 11 of the next 12 points to run their lead to 27-21. The Argos rallied with a late 3-pointer with 1:02 to go in the quarter, but Dudley raced down the court in the late stages of the quarter and nailed a running layup to put the Warhawks ahead at halftime 30-29.

The Argos nailed back-to-back 3-pointers to open the second half and took a five-point advantage over the Warhawks early in the period. After a jumper from Dudley brought the Warhawks to within a point at the 4:16 mark of the third, West Florida proceeded to score seven-straight points to take an eight-point lead. AUM would end the third quarter with a 7-2 run thanks to baskets from Catlin

Carter and Demaurea Moore to trail 48-45 after 30 minutes of play.

AUM continued their hot shooting into the fourth quarter to put West Florida on their heels and tied the game at 50 after Farrell converted on a layup with 7:53 remaining in the fourth. West Florida stretched their lead out to five with 1:30 left in the fourth, and despite the efforts of Dudley, who hit the last basket for AUM at the 1:16 mark, AUM would fall 62-56.

The Warhawks will conclude their three-game homestand on Monday, February 14, when they play host to in-state rival Alabama Huntsville. The action from the AUM Gymnasium is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
