MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery Men's Basketball Team fell 71-67 to the West Florida Argonauts in front of a packed house for homecoming on Saturday, Feb. 12.
With the loss, AUM's record falls to 9-15 overall and 6-10 in Gulf South Conference action.
Isaiah Hart led AUM with 21 points on an 8-18 shooting night. Hart also pulled down six rebounds and dished out a pair of assists.
Roderick Smith finished just two boards shy of a double-double with a 10-point, eight-rebound performance.
James Graham hauled in a game-high 13 rebounds with eight points while
Strahinja Ivic scored nine points to go along with a pair of rebounds.
Both teams knock down five of their first seven shots, with a layup by Graham at the 16:08 mark making the score 11-all.
West Florida went on to score seven of the next nine points to go up 18-13, but AUM would respond with seven of the next nine to the the game at 20-all. From there, AUM would go on to rattle of a 12-2 run to go up 32-22 with 4:56 to play and take a 34-27 lead into halftime.
UWF outscored AUM 17-6 over the second half's first six minutes to take a 44-40 lead with 13:16 left to play. The Warhawks fought back to take a 48-46 lead on a Smith three-point play at the 11:32 mark.
The two teams swapped leads over the next few minutes until the Argos took the lead for good at the 7:49 mark. The Warhawks stayed within one possession until the 1:18 mark, after an Argo layup put them up 67-62.
AUM fought back to get within three points with seven seconds left after a Youngblood trey, but the Argos would ice the contest with a free throw on their next possession to give way to the 71-67 final.
The Warhawks shot 39 percent (25-64) from the floor while going 79 percent (11-14) from the free throw line on the night. AUM tallied 32 points in the paint, 27 bench points, and 10 second-chance points in the contest.
Saturday's contest featured six lead changes and seven tied scores.
The Warhawks will return to the court on Thursday, Feb. 17 when they take on Delta State University at 7:30 p.m. from Cleveland, Miss.
