Baseball Runs Win Streak to Six with Doubleheader Sweep of Talladega

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery Baseball Team upped its current win streak to six games with a doubleheader sweep of Talladega College on Saturday, Feb. 18.

The sweep improves AUM's record to 6-4 overall. AUM took game one 5-2 and game two 9-4.

GAME ONE
Kasey Clark and Brody Syer each logged a hit and an RBI while Joseph Hartsfield added a hit and two runs scored. Jackson Murphy, Clayton Phillips, and Nick Freeman each scored a run.

Clay Slagle (2-1) worked the first three innings of the seven-inning contest to earn the win. The freshman righty struck out four batters while allowing just one earned run.

Mason Elmore (1) recorded the final three outs to earn his first career save for the Warhawks. Jake Chase (1.2) and Michael Myers (1.1) both saw action out of the bullpen for AUM in game one.

The Warhawks brought home a run in their first at-bat of the contest via a Syer single up the middle.

AUM added four runs of insurance in their next at bat in the top of the second, taking advantage of a pair of Tornado wild pitches, a balk, and a Clark RBI double to left center to go up 5-0.

Talladega accounted for a solo home run in the third and an RBI sac fly to right in the fifth before giving way to the 5-2 final score.

GAME TWO
Matthew Marfice led AUM on offense with a 3-3 day at the dish, to go along with three runs scored and a pair of runs driven in on a home run in the fifth. Jackson Ceman also added a three-hit performance while scoring once and driving in one.

Caleb Beaver and Ethan Wells both knocked a pair of hits, with Wells scoring twice and Beaver once. Brook Brannon drove in a pair of runs while Jake Spivey added an RBI double.

Luke Turner (2-0) struck out a season-high eight batters over 4.2 innings to earn the win. The sophomore righty gave up no runs on just four hits.

Jax Morris conceded just two earned runs over two innings, while Mario Galloway (1.1) and Cole Kehoe (1) combined to throw the final 2.1 innings.

AUM tallied its first two runs of the game in the third inning, taking advantage of a Ceman bunt turned Tornado throwing error, followed by a 6-4-3 twin-killing that brought in Wells.

The Warhawks broke the game open in the fifth inning with five runs on six hits. A two-run homer from Marfice, two-run single from Brannon, and a wild pitch accounted for the damage in the frame.

After giving up a pair of runs to Talladega via a two-run homer in the sixth, AUM got RBI doubles from Ceman in the sixth and Spivey in the seventh to go up by a score of 9-2. The Tornadoes would add a run in the eighth on an AUM throwing error and another in the ninth on an RBI single to right before giving way to the 9-4 final score.

The Warhawks will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 20 for a doubleheader at Talladega College. First pitch from Talladega, Ala. Is set for 11:00 a.m.
