Warhawks Drop Final Road Contest To Shorter 76-69

ROME, Ga. – The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team dropped their final road contest of the 2021-22 season to Gulf South Conference foe Shorter 76-69 on Tuesday night.

The Warhawks fall to 6-18 on the year with a 1-17 record in Gulf South play. The Hawks move to 5-15 on the year and 2-14 in GSC action.

Catlin Carter led the way in scoring for AUM against Shorter, netting 20 points against the Hawks. Freshmen Allasha Dudley and Kailyn Farrell both earned double figures in the game, scoring 16 and 14 points, respectively.

Dudley and the Warhawks started the first quarter on a high note, as the freshman sniper nailed two early 3-pointers to put AUM ahead 10-2. A quick run from the Hawks brought Shorter to within three points, and after Jamya Tyus regained AUM's seven-point lead, Shorter was able to cut the Warhawk lead to 14-12 after 10 minutes of play.

The Warhawks and Hawks traded early baskets to start the second quarter, but a 3-pointer from Farrell pushed the AUM lead to 21-15. A late 3-pointer from Tamia Willingham-King pushed the score to 34-30 in favor of the Warhawks and a layup with 13 seconds left from Carter gave AUM a four-point advantage heading into the halftime break.

Shorter was able to connect on a pair of 3-pointers early in the third period, but the Warhawks maintained a five-point lead heading into the media timeout thanks to a layup from Dudley. However, Shorter gained the upper hand late in the quarter and was able to take a two-point at the end of the quarter after a layup at the buzzer.

An early 3-pointer from Farrell put the Warhawks back in front by one point, but Shorter was able to reclaim a four-point lead after the media timeout of the fourth quarter. AUM trailed by eight points with 2:32 remaining and responded with a 7-0 run to trail by a point, but Shorter would regain their groove offensively and would take the last five points of the game to win 76-69.

AUM will conclude the regular season on Saturday, February 26, when they host Gulf South Conference rival Montevallo at the AUM Gymnasium. The Warhawks will honor their four seniors before the contest against the Falcons, with tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
