Warhawks Bit By Wolves On The Road In Conference Action

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team dropped a road contest to Gulf South Conference foe West Georgia on Monday night 73-62 in a game that was rescheduled after a postponement earlier in the year.

The Warhawks drop to 6-12 on the year with a 1-11 mark in conference action. The Wolves, meanwhile, improve to 8-10 in the 2021-22 season with a 5-8 record in GSC play.

Catlin Carter fell one rebound shy of a double-double against West Georgia. She posted a team-high 15 points and led the team in rebounds with nine. Rookie Kailyn Farrell chipped in 10 points while grabbing four rebounds for AUM.

AUM dropped 10 of the first 15 points to the Wolves to begin the game and trailed 10-5 midway through the first quarter. The Warhawks, though, rebounded quickly and saw West Georgia lead cut to one after Gracie Lee hit a mid-range jumper. West Georgia ended the first quarter on a 6-2 run to take a 19-14 lead after the first quarter.

The Wolves came alive in the second quarter and would extend their lead to 30-20 over AUM with just over four minutes remaining in the quarter. A 10-1 run would be the result of the West Georgia lead, as Farrell and the Warhawks trimmed the lead to one and would trail by two after 20 minutes of action in Georgia.

AUM struggled to score in the third quarter in Carrollton as the Warhawks were outscored 24-9 in the period. The Wolves opened the quarter on a 16-2 run to take a 51-35 lead over AUM with under four minutes to go in the third, and AUM trailed 59-42 after three.

Despite the Warhawks outscoring the Wolves by six in the fourth quarter, the Wolves were able to keep their distance from AUM in the fourth quarter. Two free throws from Allasha Dudley at the end of the quarter cut the UWG lead to the eventual final score of 73-62.

AUM will return home on Thursday, February 10, when they host Valdosta State at the AUM Gymnasium. The game against the Lady Blazers is slated to begin at 6 p.m. and marks the first of a three-game homestand for the Warhawks.
