MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery Baseball Team fell 16-3 to West Alabama in game one of its three-game Gulf South Conference Series with the Tigers on Friday, April 1 to drop to 18-14 overall and 8-8 in GSC action.
Zach Dew and
Kasey Clark each recorded a hit and an RBI in the contest, with
Nick Freeman and
Brody Syer registering a hit and a run. Syer additionally slugged a double.
Jax Morris (1-2) conceded six runs over 4.1 innings to take the loss.
Jake Chase,
Will Collins, and
Cole Kehoe combined to toss the remaining 2.2 innings out of the bullpen for AUM.
The Tigers tallied 14 of their 16 runs in innings five and six, hanging up six in the fifth and eight in the sixth.
AUM jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, when Dew plated Freeman with a two-out knock to right field. Freeman led off the frame with a walk and was advanced to second on a groundout to shortstop from
Jackson Ceman.
UWA responded with a leadoff solo shot in the top of the second, followed by six runs on six hits in the top of the fifth to jump out to a 7-1 lead. A two-RBI single, two-run homer, RBI single, and a Warhawk wild pitch accounted for the damage done in the frame.
A pair of RBI singles sandwiched between a two-RBI double started the scoring action for UWA in the sixth. AUM would then go on to walk in a pair of runs and then concede a two-RBI single before the dust settled in the frame.
The Tigers slugged their final home run of the night in the top of the seventh to add one more to their total, followed by an RBI single from Clark in the bottom of the inning before giving way to the final score.
The Warhawks will play games two and three of their weekend set with the Tigers on Saturday, April 2, beginning at 1:00 p.m. from Q.V. Lowe Field.
