nVALDOSTA, Ga. – The Auburn Montgomery Baseball Team used a four-run 10th inning to pick up a 7-4 victory at Valdosta State in game one of its weekend Gulf South Conference Series on Friday, April 15.
With the win, the Warhawks improve to 24-15 overall and 13-9 in GSC action.
Caleb Beaver knocked in a team-high two run with a pair of base hits and a run scored.
Jackson Ceman scored a game-high three runs while also recording a pair of hits and an RBI.
Zach Dew and
Joseph Hartsfield both also logged a two-hit performance, with an RBI and run scored each.
Michael Myers (3-1) grabbed his second win in as many contests by tossing the game's final 2.1 innings. The sophomore submariner conceded just one run while striking out three.
Clay Slagle scattered three runs on four hits over the first 4.2 innings while
Jax Morris (1.1) and
Mason Elmore (1.2) combined to work three innings out of the AUM bullpen.
After a scoreless first two innings, AUM cracked the scoreboard first with a pair of runs in the top of the third. A Ceman RBI double, followed by a Beaver RBI single, accounted for the damage done in the frame.
The Blazers responded their next time up with an RBI groundout and a two-run homer to go up 3-2.
VSU's advantage would hold all the way until inning number eight, when a three-base Blazer throwing error off the bat of Beaver allowed the tying run to come around to score and make it a 3-3 game. Ceman led off the inning with an infield hit prior to the miscue.
The Warhawks began inning number 10 with a single by Beaver that brought placed-runner Ceman to third. A fielding error off the bat of
Brody Syer, RBI single from Dew, sac fly from
Kasey Clark, and RBI double from Hartsfield made up for the run-scoring action in the inning.
VSU pushed across its lone run of the bottom of the 10th via a one-out double before Myers would slam the door shut and give way to the 7-4 final score.
The Warhawks will play games two and three against the Blazers on Saturday, April 16 beginning at 12:00 p.m. (CST)
