MONTGOMERY, Ala. ---- The Auburn University at Montgomery Department of Athletics is saddened to learn of the passing of former men's basketball standout Jerome "Doc" Liggett, a member of the AUM Athletics Hall of Fame Class 0f 2006.
Liggett, a Montgomery native who prepped at Lee High School in town, was a member of the first basketball team at AUM and lettered from 1975-79.
During his career with the then-Senators, Liggett helped the team to its first championship and an NAIA District 27 Tournament appearance. He earned NAIA Honorable Mention All-American honors following the 1975-76 season, becoming the first All-American in the history of AUM Athletics.
Liggett still ranks second all-time in scoring in the men's basketball record book, finishing his career with 1,988 points. His career scoring average of 17.0 points per game ranks sixth all-time, while he sits third in career rebounds with 712.
Funeral services for Liggett have not been announced.
