Hollingshed's Late Putback Lifts Women's Basketball Past West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. --  Kamya Hollingshed collected an offensive rebound and scored the go-ahead basket with less than 10 seconds left in regulation, and Hatti Cox drained a pair of free throws with two seconds left to help the Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team collect a hard-fought 67-64 win over the Universoty of West Alabama. 

Allasha Dudley led all scorers with 25 points in the contest, while Cox set new season-highs in points (12) and minutes played (35) for the Warhawks.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • AUM got off to a 5-0 start with a layup and a three-point jumper by Cox.
  • The Warhawks held a 23-13 lead after the opening stanza in large part due to a 14-point first quarter by Dudley. Dudley hit four three-pointers and a jumper to help the visitors to the early lead.
  • UWA, however, bounced back with a big second quarter to get the home crowd stirred up. The Tigers posted 22 points and outscored the Warhawks 22-10 to snatch the lead 35-33 at the half.
  • A layup by Jemeriah Moore, a three-pointer by Hollinghsed, and a three-pointer by Cox capped an 8-0 run out of the locker room in the third quarter to take a 41-35 lead. 
  • Zoe Watts and the Tigers responded with a 9-0 run of their own to bounce back in front 44-41 on Watts' three-pointer. 
  • Back-to-back jumpers from Moore instantly gave the Warhawks the lead again as part of a 10-4 push to lead 51-47 heading to the fourth quarter. 
  • The lead changed hands seven times in a back-and-forth final quarter. With UWA up 64-63 with less than a minute to play, Dudley missed a baseline jumper, but Hollingshed pulled down the offensive rebound and banked home the go-ahead bucket with nine seconds to play.
  • Cox hit two free throws with two seconds left, and the Tigers' late attempt to tie the game fell off the mark.
NOTABLES
  • Cox set new season highs in points (12) and minutes played (333), and only missed one shot all night. 
  • Dudley added three rebounds, five assists, and four steals in 35 minutes of action. The game marked her 13th of the season in double figures.
  • AUM dished out 17 assists as a team and forced 19 West Alabama turnovers.
  • The Warhawks also hit nine three-pointers while holding the Tigers to just 3-for-13 shooting from three-point territory.
  • Watts scored 18 points to lead the Tigers offensively.

"A great win tonight for Warhawk nation," said head coach Steve Kenner. "West Alabama is a tough team and well coached, and tonight was a hard-fought win. I am super proud of how we handled adversity throughout the game. Playing on the road in a hostile environment is always challenging. Our team displayed lots of positive energy and was resilient throughout the course of the game."
