Chargers Trip Up Volleyball In Five Set Thriller

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball team lost a five set match against The University of Alabama in Huntsville 3-2 in a Gulf South Conference matchup inside the AUM Athletics Complex.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • AUM came out of the gate hitting on all cylinders and took an 8-1 lead after Keren Santana delivered a service ace. The Warhawks used a kill from Maya Thompson to make it 19-13. The Chargers got back in the set, but a kill from Myllena Torquetti scored a kill to give AUM a 25-22 first set victory. 
  • The two teams battled back-and-forth in the early stages of set two. A big six-point rally gave the Chargers a 12-7 lead, but the Warhawks utilized a 8-1 run after Alessia Cappai picked up a kill to give AUM a 16-14 lead. AUM created more separation with a 5-1 run to give AUM a 21-17 lead and eventually captured the set after an attack error on UAH. 
  • The visitors picked up momentum in set three after taking a 17-13 lead. The Warhawks battled to get back in the set, but the Chargers took the third set 25-17 and cut the match lead to 2-1. 
  • The Chargers evened the match at 2-2 after taking set four 25-23. Auburn Montgomery took a 23-20 lead after Kendall McCain and Kyla Ffrench posted kills from Campbell Gash and Savannah Sebek. The Chargers took the set after a 5-0 ended the set. 
  • In the fifth set, AUM took a 6-5 lead after Cappai had a kill. The Chargers regrouped and rallied to take a 9-6 lead. AUM scored two more points as UAH took set five 15-8 and captured the match 3-2. 
STATS OF THE MATCH
  • Sebek had 28 assists, while Gash posted another career-high of 27 assists. 
  • Cappai led the Warhawks in kills with 21 on 44 attacks and tied her career-high. She posted 21 kills last season at Valdosta State. 
  • As a team, AUM had 75 digs. Kaleigh Ftizgerald posted a season-high with 22 and Cappai had 18. Santana had 13 digs. 
  • Ruth Sconocchini chipped in with nine kills. 
  • Torquetti had five block assists.

The Warhawks hit the road to Lee University on Friday, October 13 at 5 p.m. at the Paul Dana Walker Arena in a GSC matchup.
