Women's Basketball Grinds Out 80-72 Victory Against Shorter

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Allasha Dudley scored 29 points in the Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball 80-72 victory against Shorter University on Sunday afternoon inside the AUM Athletics Complex in a Gulf South Conference matchup.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Jamya Tyus scored a basket three minutes into the game to give AUM a 5-2 lead. 
  • Dudley and Kamya Hollingshed sparked a 9-0 run for AUM midway into the first quarter to extend the AUM lead to 14-6. 
  • Dudley connected on back-to-back three pointers in the second quarter to help push the Warhawks in front 33-19.
  • Dudley sank two free throws late in the first half to give AUM a 45-31 lead heading into the intermission. 
  • Shorter outscored AUM 27-17 in the third quarter and cut the Warhawk lead down to 62-58. 
  • Shorter's Derrica McCall made a jumper in the paint to cut AUM's lead down to 66-64 with seven minutes remaining in the game. 
  • Jemeriah Moore and Dudley responded with jumpers to help AUM regain control of the game with 5:44 to go. 
  •  The Warhawks were 6-of-7 from the charity stripe and helped secure the 80-72 victory in front of the home crowd. 
NOTABLES
  • Dudley scored 20 or more points for the second time this season. She also had five boards. 
  • Tyus broke double-digits with 17 points going 6-for-11 from the floor. She swiped three steals. 
  • Hollingshed scored 10 points and connected on two from beyond the arc. 
  • Brianna Sanchez grabbed nine rebounds to lead AUM on the glass.

"We had to grind out a win against a team who is extremely hard working," Head Coach Jon Plefka said. "We are looking foward to two tough road games ahead beginning on Friday!"
