MONTGOMERY, Ala. ---- Auburn University at Montgomery Athletics has received a multi-year commitment from Mr. Keith Johnson, a 2001 graduate with a degree in finance, in support of two Athletic Department capital projects: the new Student-Athlete Performance Center and the future shared hitting and pitching facility for the Baseball and Softball programs.
"I am very happy to participate and give back to AUM and AUM Athletics during this recent fundraising campaign," Johnson said. "AUM was a transformative experience for me. I hope current student-athletes can similarly benefit from their time on campus, like I did."
Johnson, who is the Vice President and General Manager of Ingram Equipment Company in Birmingham, Ala., played baseball from 1999-2001 for the then-Senators. During his playing career, he appeared in 163 games, recorded a career batting average of .377, with five home runs, five triples and 26 doubles. He scored 127 runs and drove in 94, while his 54 career stolen bases currently rank fourth in the AUM record book. Johnson enjoyed a stellar 2000 season, in which he hit .395, with 11 doubles, 44 runs scored and 29 RBIs, and earned NAIA Honorable Mention All-America honors.
"We are deeply appreciative of Keith's generosity and commitment to the improvement of our facilities," AUM Chancellor Carl A. Stockton said. "His investment serves as testament to the passion our alumni hold for the university. Facility enhancements represent a critical component in recruiting high-caliber student-athletes and competing at a championship level."
"The support Keith has shown to AUM through the years, and specifically with this generous gift, will have a profound impact on current and future student-athletes at AUM," Director of Athletics Erik Maas said. "In today's landscape of college athletics, exceptional facilities play a critical role in the recruitment, retention and development of student-athletes, so we cannot thank Keith enough for his commitment to our current and future Warhawks."
Johnson's gift is supporting the Athletic Department's vision to enhance its current facilities for AUM's 11 varsity men's and women's sports and the university's aim of becoming one of the premier NCAA Division II institutions in the conference, region and nation.
