MELBOURNE, Fla. – The fourth-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery softball team split the opening day of the Panther Invitational Friday. The Warhawks lost to the 17th-ranked University of Tampa 2-0 and turned around and defeated Embry-Riddle University 2-0.

HIGHLIGHTS (GM 1)
- Chloe Baynes got on base with an infield single. Baynes reached third base after stealing two bags. Molly Cobb got to first on a walk but, a popup ended the top of the first inning.
- Tampa scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third when Lilly Kiester hit a double down the left field line and scored Lauren Fantone.
- In the fourth inning, Cobb got back to base on a walk and Faith Wheat came in to pinch run. Wheat stole second base however, a couple of fly outs ended the inning.
- Tampa scored the final run of the game in the fourth inning when Kate DeSimone singles to right field with two runners on. Camryn Wineinger scored from third base to put the Spartans up 2-0.
- AUM got two runners on in the final three innings, but the Tampa defense did not give up a run in the game.
ON THE MOUND (GM 1)
- Avery Dickerson absorbed the loss on the mound for the Warhawks. She faced 27 batters and gave up two runs on seven hits through six innings. She walked one batter and struck one out.
HIGHLIGHTS (GM 2)
- Game two began with Mahaliyah Sandridge earning a walk and getting on base. The Warhawks forced three outs in a row to end the top of the first.
- Frank reached base on a sacrifice bunt and scored Olivia Aycock for AUM to go up 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Allie Miller gave a sacrifice bunt and Haley Ann Frank scored an unearned run.
- The game ended in the top of the seventh after Embry-Riddle's Mia Macchia grounded out to Morgan Ferguson and AUM got the 2-0 win.
ON THE MOUND (GM 2)
- Morgan Ferguson (2-1) earned the win after pitching seven complete innings. Ferguson did not allow a run on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.
NOTABLES
- Chloe Derrick extended her hitting streak and reached base streak to four straight games.
- Both of AUM's runs came from sacrifice bunts.
- AUM had two hits in the 2-0 victory against Embry-Riddle and three hits against Tampa.
