Baseball Evens Series against Union with 15-5 Rout

JACKSON, Tenn. – Trailing 2-1 after one inning, the Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team erupted for 14 unanswered runs and evened its Gulf South Conference series against Union Saturday, with a 15-5 victory at Fesmire Field. Game two of the doubleheader was postponed.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Warhawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Jackson Ceman's second career home run. Ceman finished 1-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored.
  • After a two-run single by Britt Netterville gave Union a 2-1 lead, Brody Syer gave AUM the lead for good with a two-run double, scoring Ceman and Nick Freeman in to start a five-run third inning. Zach Dew added an RBI, while Clayton Phillips drove in a pair with a two-out single. 
  • The Warhawks blew the game open with a seven-run frame in the fourth. Kasey Clark, Cooper Doughman, Dew and Freeman each drove in runs, while Cole McWhorter had two runs batted in during the inning.  
  • Syer added his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the in the fifth inning to cap the scoring for AUM.
  • Union added a run in the bottom of the fifth and two unearned runs in the seventh to provide final margin.
ON THE MOUND 
  • Clay Slagle tossed six innings, allowing six hits and striking out a season-high six to pick up his second win of the season.
  • Cole Kehoe surrendered a pair of unearned runs in an inning of work to close out the victory.
NOTABLES
  • Slagle tossed a season-high six innings in the victory, his longest outing since he threw 6 1/3 against Shorter on April 30, 2022.
  • With a third inning single, Dew extended his career-best hitting streak to 18 games. 
  • Syer posted his eighth multiple-RBI game of the season and the 20th of his career.
  • Freeman finished with three hits, marking his fifth time in the last seven games with multi hits.

The Warhawks and Bulldogs play the rubber match of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m., weather permitting.
