Softball Splits DH Against UWG in Nonconference Action

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team split a nonconference doubleheader against the University of West Georgia on Wednesday at the University Softball Field. The Warhawks took the Wolves down 16-1 and dropped game two 6-5.

HIGHLIGHTS (GM 1)
  • AUM opened the scoring early with a Molly Cobb three run homer to center field in the first inning. 
  • In the second inning Cobb and Chloe Derrick tallied RBI singles to go up 6-0 in the second inning. 
  • Gia Martin hit a two RBI single and put the score at 9-0.
  • Lexie Love homered to left field to push the score to 10-0
  • The Wolves scored the lone run in the third inning after Derrick delivered a RBI single in the top half of the inning. 
  • Allie Miller reached on a fielder's choice and scored a run before Cobb singled and scored the 13th run for AUM. 
  • Derrick launched a three run homer to left field to wrap things up at 16-1.
ON THE MOUND (GM 1) 
  • Morgan Ferguson worked two innings and gave up no runs on one hit. She was relived by Brinkley Yevak who went three innings and allowed one run on five hits. The duo struck two batters out each. 
HIGHLIGHTS (GM 2) 
  • AUM took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Derrick laid down a bunt and scored two runs. 
  • UWG got two runs back in the second off a fielders choice and a sacrifice bunt. 
  • The Warhwks retook the lead in the fourth inning off a solo shot from Lexie Bullock. 
  • Derrick hit a two run home run to extend the Warhawk lead to 5-2. 
  • UWG started their comeback in the sixth inning with a RBI groundout to cut it to 5-3.
  • West Georgia's Pinto singled up the middle and scored Bailey. Following that was Janke hitting a walk-off two run homer to win the game for the Wolves. 
ON THE MOUND (GM 2) 
  • Sydni Free pitched 6.2 innings and gave up six runs with four being unearned on seven hits. She struck one batter out and walked one. 
UP NEXT

AUM travels to Union University on Saturday, March 11 and 12 for a Gulf South Conference series.
