Dominant Victory Pushes Men's Tennis to Program's First GSC Championship Match

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Auburn University at Montgomery men's tennis team earned a massive victory over the No. 3 seed and sixth-ranked University of West Florida on Friday afternoon at Lagoon Park by a final score of 4-1 to advance to the program's first Gulf South Conference Championship.

FIRST SERVE – DOUBLES 
  • Giuseppe Bonaiuti and Joao Guariente took down the second-ranked doubles team in the nation in Facundo Bermejo and Tomas Descarrega 6-3. 
  • The Warhawks clinched the doubles point on the second court when Muhamad Bedwan and Adrian Contreras defeated Bernardo Costa and Sebastian Rondon 7-5. 
  • Court three was left unfinished after AUM clinched the point. 
FIRST SERVE – SINGLES
  • Bedwan came up short against Bermejo 6-3, 6-2 on the second court as West Florida tied the match at 1-1. 
  • Bonaiuti handled Costa on court three 7-6, 6-1 to push AUM back up 2-1. 
  • Contreras earned a victory over Kearney 6-4, 6-3 to give Auburn Montgomery a 3-1 lead on the fourth court. 
  • Thibault Jacq clinched the match for AUM with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Martinez. 
WORDS WITH THE WARHAWKS
"Today was a tough battle and the guys came with a lot of energy in doubles," head tennis coach Yair Banuelos said. " That set the tone for singles and we were able to close three courts and get the win. Tomorrow's match will be tough, but if we play with the same belief and energy I like our chances."

AUM will play in the GSC Semifinals on Friday, April 21 against the No. 1 seed and No. 2 team in the nation in Valdosta State University at 10 AM at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Alabama.
