Softball Sweeps Doubleheader, Takes Series at No. 4 UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team took two games at No. 4 University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday afternoon at Charger Park to wrap up the 2023 regular season by final scores of 8-3 and 9-2 in Gulf South Conference action.

HIGHLIGHTS (GM 1)
  • The Warhawks plated two runs in second inning off two RBI singles from Haley Ann Frank and Margaret Morgan to give AUM a 2-0 lead. 
  • Lexie Bullock homered in the fourth frame that brought Gia Martin home and a 4-0 AUM lead. 
  • The Chargers scored all three runs in the fifth frame off a sacrifice fly and a pair of singles to cut the Warhawks lead to 4-3. 
  • In the sixth inning Martin knocked her eighth ball out of the yard. Later in the inning, Morgan put the cherry on top with a three-run homer to put AUM on top 8-3. 
IN THE CIRCLE (GM 1)
  • Avery Dickerson (W, 14-4) tossed five innings allowing three runs off four hits. She struck one batter out and walked one. 
  • Alanna Goble worked the final two innings giving up no runs on one hit. Goble struck one batter out. 
HIGHLIGHTS (GM 2)
  • Chloe Derrick earned a RBI off a sacrifice bunt that scored Allie Miller in the first inning. 
  • The Chargers responded with a run in the bottom of the first and in the fourth to go up 2-1. 
  • The Warhawks just had the one run until the sixth frame when Olivia Aycock scored Shelby Edgeworth to even the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning. 
  • Auburn Montgomery took the lead in the sixth frame off a Charger throwing error that allowed Martin to score. Chloe Baynes followed it with a RBI single that pushed Aycock across home plate and give the Warhawks a 4-2 lead. 
  • The home run party began in the top of the seventh as Kat Fallen tallied a solo homer and Martin blasted a two-run shot to give AUM a 7-2 advantage. Chloe Baynes wrapped up the scoring with a two RBI single that gave AUM the 9-2 victory. 
IN THE CIRCLE (GM 2)
  • Morgan Ferguson (W, 12-5) was in the circle going the complete seven innings and allowed two runs with one being earned on five hits. She struck two batters out and walked three. 
UP NEXT

The Warhawks will enter the Gulf South Conference Tournament as the No. 4 overall seed and take on No. 5 Valdosta State University on Wednesday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m. in Oxford, Alabama at Choccolocco Park.
