Baseball Falls in Series Opener Against Saint Leo

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Saint Leo University used an eight-run outburst in the first inning to down the Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team in the series opener on Thursday afternoon at Q.V. Lowe Field. 

The two teams were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader, but inclement weather forced the postponement of game two. The two squads are now set to play a doubleheader on Friday, April 7 beginning at 11 a.m.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Saint Leo scored eight runs in the first inning to take control of the game. The Lions sent 13 men to the plate and walked three times, were hit by a pitch, and had six singles in the frame.
  • The Warhawks added a run in the last of the first inning on a Brody Syer RBI double off the left field wall.
  • The Lions added an RBI single in the second inning, an RBI double and a sacrifice fly in the third frame, and an RBI single in the fourth inning.
ON THE MOUND 
  • Levi Clark (0-1) earned the start, the second of the season for him, and suffered the loss for the Warhawks. 
  • Mason Elmore logged 2.2 relief innings, his longest relief outing of the season.
  • Cole Kehoe logged four innings of relief and allowed one earned run, two total, on four hits with six strikeouts. 
NOTABLES
  • Syer's double was his sixth of the season for the Warhawks.
  • The Lions pounded out 15 hits but had just two extra-base hits, both doubles. 
  • Kehoe's six strikeouts of Saint Leo hitters came consecutively. He got the last two outs of the fifth inning on strikeouts, struck out the side in the sixth inning, and struck out the first man he faced in the seventh inning.

The Warhawks and Lions are scheduled to play a nine-inning contest on Friday, April 7 at 11 a.m., with a seven-inning game to follow.
