Sixth Shutout Helps Men's Soccer to Scoreless Draw Against Alabama Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery men's soccer team posted its sixth shutout of the season and improved to 4-0-2 on the road as the Warhawks played to a 0-0 draw against the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Friday night in the Rocket City.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • A pair of early saves from AUM goalkeeper William Blake kept the Chargers off the scoreboard in the opening 10 minutes of the match. 
  • Cole Farrior, Andrew Strait, Adam Hanson, and Nick Atkinson all tallied a shot in the first half, but neither team was able to find a goal.
  • One of the best chances for the Warhawks to find the back of the net came in the 81st minute. 
  • After a UAH red card left AUM a man up for the final 15 minutes of the match, Carlo Russo nearly put AUM in front. 
  • Off an AUM corner kick, the ball found Russo and his shot narrowly missed wide left.
  • Each side had an errant shot in the closing minutes of the contest as the two teams finished 90 minutes in a 0-0 tie.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Warhawks took nine shots to just six for the Chargers.
  • William Blake made a pair of early saves in goal and posted his fifth shutout. Blake continued to pace the GSC in shutouts (5), goals-against average (.27), and save percentage (.923).
  • Six cards were issued in the match, as the Chargers received three yellow cards and one red card.

"We had another great GSC battle tonight," head coach Matthew Thorne said. "These local derbies are so tight at times. I felt like we created enough to win the match, but it just wasn't meant to be. Happy we posted another clean sheet. We have been top-class defensively and will be tested again on Sunday. We're looking forward to another tough game. Now we recover and focus on Sunday. Up The Warhawks!"

UP NEXT

AUM remains away from home as the Warhawks visit Livingston, Ala. to take on the University of West Alabama on Sunday, Oct. 1. The match is slated for a 3:30 p.m. kick-off.
