Volleyball Sweeps Union In GSC Action

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball team dominated Union University 3-0 on Saturday afternoon inside the AUM Athletics Complex for the program's third conescutive victory in Gulf South Conference action.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Warhawks began the match on a 6-1 run that was highlighted with a kill Kyla Ffrench. The Lady Bulldogs trimmed away at the lead to make it 12-9, but AUM responded with a four-point rally after a kill from Keren Santana made it 16-9. AUM took the set 25-15 after Ruth Sconocchini delivered a kill off an assist from Amber Bretwisch. 
  • The second set was controlled from start to finish by AUM. It began with a 11-3 run from Auburn Montgomery after Savannah Sebek set a ball for Giulia Santuari to kill. After back-and-forth points the score was 17-9 and the Warhawks gained momentum off a kill from Myllena Torquetti to help make the lead 20-9. Ffrench found a kill to give AUM the second set victory 25-12 and a 2-0 lead in the match. 
  • The third set was a little tighter than the first two as AUM used a five and six point rallies to help take a 24-11 lead in the set. Union found momentum and put together a run, but it came late as AUM picked up the 25-17 victory in the set and captured the 3-0 victory.  
STATS OF THE MATCH
  • Bretwisch and Sebek dominated the setter positions as they combined for 39 assists. 
  • Santuari led the way for the Warhawk offense with 12 kills on 17 attacks. 
  • Ffrench had a strong game with eight kills on 10 attacks. She also chipped in with four block assists. 
  • Santana and Torquetti both posted eight kills in the match, Santana had 10 digs as well. 
  • Kaleigh Fitzgerald posted 14 digs and dished out a pair of assists. 
UP NEXT

The Warhawks return to the AUM Athletics Complex for an action packed day with Warhawk Spotlight, Faculty Staff Appreciation Day, and Mental Health Awareness Day on Tuesday, October 2 against Mississippi College at 6 p.m. in a GSC match.
