Women's Hoops Powers Past Montevallo, 65-50

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --  The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team outscored the University of Montevallo 36-6 in the paint on Saturday afternoon on the way to a 65-50 victory in Gulf South Conference action inside the AUM Athletics Complex.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Montevallo scored the first basket of the game, but Allasha Dudley connected on three shots from long range to push AUM in front 13-5 in the early stages of the game. 
  • Grace O'Gara made four free throws to begin the second quarter to stretch the AUM lead to 22-11 with 8:35 left in the half. 
  • Montevallo's Anna Katherine Eastman made a three-pointer to bring them within three points at 24-21 midway through the quarter. 
  • Jamya Tyus made a jumper in the paint with 1:22 left in the quarter which gave AUM a 33-21 lead. Montevallo's Savannah Cook made a three-pointer with a minute left in the quarter. Neither team scored again and AUM held a 33-24 lead at the intermission. 
  • AUM began the second half with Dudley making a pair of jumpers and Brianna Sanchez connecting on a jumper in the paint to give AUM a 15 point lead at 39-24. 
  • AUM's lead grew to 17 at the end of the third quarter thanks to Sanchez making a pair of jumpers late in the third quarter. 
  • Montevallo was unable to trim the lead down to single digits as AUM earned the 65-50 victory over the Falcons. 
NOTABLES
  • Dudley scored 20 going 8-for-20 from the field. She has scored 20 points or more in five games this season. She also gathered eight rebounds. 
  • Danielle Luckey posted her sixth double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. 
  • Sanchez had a double-double for the first time this season with 10 points and 10 boards. 
  • O'Gara scored 13 points and was 11-for-11 from the charity stripe. 
  • The Warhawks outrebounded the Falcons 45-21. 
FROM THE SIDELINE

"Huge home win for us after two straight double-digit losses," head coach Jon Plefka said. "We had a solid week of practice and responded right from the tip. We executed everything very well especially our defensive game plan."

AUM travels to The University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday, January 20 in a GSC matchup at 2 p.m.
