13 Three-Pointers Spark Men's Basketball Road Win Against Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Sparked by a season-high 13 three-point field goals, the Auburn University at Montgomery men's basketball team secured an 88-76 road win over Valdosta State University.

The Warhawks, led by a season-high 26 points from Travis Anderson, made it three wins in the their last four games. Jalen Gaston (16), Joseph Lanzi (13), and Jalil Robinson (10) all joined Anderson in double figures.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Leading by a point in the opening minutes, AUM got three-pointers from Anderson, Gaston, and Lanzi as part of a 15-4 run to build a 20-8 advantage at the 13:27 mark.
  • Chappelle Whitney hit a pair of free throws to up the Warhawk lead to 30-14 with eight minutes to go in the opening half.
  • The Blazers briefly cut the lead to nine, but AUM held on to a 13-point halftime advantage.
  • A 7-2 sprint by Valdosta State to start the second half trimmed the lead to single digits, but a Malachi Rhodes layup capped a 15-3 run in response to build a a 59-39 lead for the visitors.
  • Caden Boser hit a layup as Valdosta State worked the lead back under 10 points, but Anderson immediately answered with a triple to help AUM keep the Blazers at bay the rest of the way.

  • Anderson turned in the eighth 20-plus point scoring effort of his AUM career.
  • Gaston made it six straight games scoring in double figures.
  • Valdosta State attempted 36 free throws to just 11 for the Warhawks.
  • AUM turned in its 11th contest with 10 or more steals and posted 18 assists, the second-most of the season in that category. 
  • Malachi Rhodes blocked four shots, tied for the most this season by a Warhawk.
