Warhawks Drop 5-Setter at Lee

Maya Thompson had 19 kills on .395 hitting and was in on seven blocks

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The AUM women's volleyball team found itself in a 5-set match for the third time in the last five outings on Friday night at Lee. But the Flames came away with the 19-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-22, 17-15 come-from-behind victory, outlasting the Warhawks in the fourth and fifth sets. 

AUM (4-12, 1-6 Gulf South) dropped its sixth-consecutive match and fourth of the season that went the distance. The Warhawks hit .218, marking the seventh time to surpass the .200 mark in 2024 and the fourth time in seven GSC contests. AUM also set a season high with 14 blocks - three solos and 22 block assists.

It spoiled an outstanding effort from senior Maya Thompson who hit .395 on 43 swings with 19 kills to go with seven blocks, a service ace and two digs. Her attacks, kills, blocks and block assists were all career highs. Savannah Sebek led the team with four service aces, to go along with her 22 assists and 12 digs. The team had 12 aces overall for the second-highest mark of the year.

Lee (11-9, 5-3) finished with a .227 hitting pct. and was led by Carmen Perez's 20 kills. 

AUM had a 12-6 lead in the final set and served for the match at 14-13 only to see Lee make the home court comeback.

The Warhawks will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Nasvhille, Tennessee to face GSC newcomer Trevecca Nazarene. First serve at Trojan Fieldhouse is at 1 p.m.
