CLINTON, Miss. - Led by
Maya Thompson's career-high 23 kills and a will to not let anything stand in their way of a victory, the AUM women's volleyball team pulled out a 3-2 victory at Mississippi College on Saturday. The Warhawks won with set scores of 17-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-27, 15-13.
AUM (7-15, 4-9 Gulf South) won consecutive matches for the first time this season and collected the program's first-ever win at A.E. Wood Coliseum in five all-time visits.
Thompson hit .378 and was joined in double figures in kills by
Emily Brown who added a career-high 11.
Savannah Sebek added six kills, 27 assists and 16 digs a day after leading the team with a triple-double.
Greta Corrente did a little bit of everything, combining for seven kills, seven digs, two service aces, a block and an assist.
The Warhawks hit .217 but came away with solid kills numbers with double-digit totals in the middle three sets and seven in the final stanza.
MC (11-10, 9-4) finished with .232 hitting and got a match-high 25 kills and 11 digs from Lydia Paulette.
The victory moves the Warhawks into eighth place in the GSC standings with seven matches remaining in the regular-season. AUM will play four of its next five matches at home, beginning Friday, Nov. 1 against Christian Brothers. The match will start at 6 p.m.
