Warhawks Block-ade Lady Buccaneers, 3-1

Kendall McCain had 20 kills, eight digs and three service aces

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Kendall McCain had a season-high 20 kills to help AUM to a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over Christian Brothers at the AUM Athletics Complex on Friday night.
 
AUM (8-15, 5-9 Gulf South) extended its win streak to a season-best three matches which is also the second-longest active streak in the league. The Warhawks hit .250 and finished with 10 blocks – their third double-digit block contest in the last eight matches.
 
McCain's 20 winners came on .386 hitting with just three errors and were one shy of her career-best match in 2022. She also had 26 reception opportunities with just one error and eight digs.
 
Savannah Sebek recorded 24 assists, 10 digs, four block assists, three kills and an ace. Maya Thompson finished with 12 kills and four blocks, while Greta Corrente stuffed the stat sheet with eight kills, five aces, five digs and two blocks.
 
The Warhawks scored 13 aces – their highest in a 4-setter this season and second-most in 2024.
 
Set 1
CBU started out by winning the first five points and led 14-4. The Lady Bucs hit .355 on their way to a 25-18 decision. Rizvi and Allen both had five kills for CBU.
 
Set 2
The Warhawks flipped the script in the second set, hitting .257 and taking control midway through the contest. With the score knotted at 14-14, AUM went on a 6-1 run with Kendall McCain scoring three-consecutive kills to spark the momentum on its way to a 25-17 win.
 
Set 3
AUM ratcheted-up the attack in the third, hitting .462 with five aces and two blocks on its way to a 25-16 triumph. Thompson had seven kills on seven swings as the Warhawks only had one attack error.
 
Set 4
The fourth set appeared to be on the way of going to the Lady Bucs as they scored seven-straight for a 17-10 lead. AUM then battled back to within 19-17 and eventually 22-19. The home team fought off a pair of set points before winning the match 29-27 on a block assist by McCain and Courtney Joseph.
 
CBU (7-19, 3-13) was led by Ella Schumacher's 19 kills on 55 attacks. The Lady Bucs hit .184.
 
UP NEXT
AUM continues regular-season action on Saturday afternoon with a home match against Union (7-17, 5-10). First serve at the AUM Athletics Complex is at 2 p.m.
