MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Auburn University at Montgomery Women's Basketball (1-3, 0-0) picked up its first win of the season over Lander (3-2, 0-0) 70-66 on Saturday afternoon, the first win under first-year head coach, Ashlee Phillips.
AUM was without its First Team All-GSC selection,
Allasha Dudley in Saturday's game, but would still secure the Victory led by 19 points from
Samya Brooks.
The Warhawks saw standout performances from freshman,
Carrington Jones and
Tamora Brown. Jones collected 14 points while Brown had 11.
Danielle Luckey also added seven points along with 12 rebounds.
AUM held Lander to 26% shooting in the first quarter and led 15-10. The Warhawks aggressive defense forced the Bearcats into five turnovers early in the first quarter to jump out to the lead.
The Warhawks would lead by four going into halftime after a back and forth second quarter, led by the Warhawks 23-22.
AUM would lead for most of the second half before Lander tied it up at 66 in fourth quarter. However, Brooks delivered a clutch jumper in the final 30 seconds, and
Andie Flatgard iced the game with two free throws, giving AUM a 70-66 win.
AUM continues non-conference play on Tuesday, November 26 against Spring hill, tip off is set for 1 p.m. CT.
