CLEVELAND, Miss. – The AUM men's basketball team was unable to overcome the big 3-point shooting of Delta State, falling to the Statesmen, 92-80, at Sillers Coliseum on Saturday.
AUM (4-4, 1-2 Gulf South) shot over 50 percent for the majority of the contest – connecting on a season-high 55 percent - but committed 20 turnovers.
Gilbert Croley had 15 points to pace AUM.
Paul Lanzi had 14 and
Trent Coleman finished with 11.
DSU (6-4, 2-2) finished with 17 3-pointers and had 18 points off turnovers. Chris Terrell made five triples and scored a game-high 41 points.
DSU made nine 3-pointers in the first half as the home squad built a 43-33 lead at the half.
AUM's starters came out on fire in the second half, using a 10-0 run in the first 2:58 to tie the game at 43. But the Statesmen regained control with a 15-3 run that gave them a 61-48 edge with 12 minutes to play. The Warhawks were unable to get the deficit any lower than four points the rest of the game.
AUM will return to action on Monday afternoon at Mississippi College. Tip-off at A.E. Wood Coliseum in Clinton, Mississippi is set for 4 p.m.
