AUM Drops Tight One At Mississippi College, 70-62

Chappelle Whitney led the Warhawks with 22 points

CLINTON, Miss. - The AUM men's basketball team suffered a scoring drought late in the game, falling to Mississippi College, 70-62, at A.E Wood Coliseum on Monday evening.

AUM led 62-60 with just over three minutes to play but was unable to put the ball in the basket the remainder of the game as MC scored the final 10 points for the victory.

AUM (4-5, 1-3 Gulf South) was led in scoring by Chappelle Whitney's 22 points - which included 4-of-7 from outside - and a team-high nine rebounds. Talib Ferrette had 13 points, two blocks, a steal and an assist as well.

The Warhawks shot 35 percent and were 19-of-27 from the free throw line.

MC (6-4, 2-2) was led by Rashad Golden who had 30 points, six rebounds and three assists. The Choctaws ended the night shooting 40 percent and had 12 fast break points.

AUM trailed 33-21 late in the first half before closing the frame on an 11-4 run to pull within 37-32 at the break. The Orange and Black continued the strong play coming out of the locker room, using a 13-2 stretch to take a 45-39 lead with 12:02 to play.

The lead would change hands six times before a Bolden three with 2:38 on the clock gave MC a 63-62 lead. That was the start of the game-ending 10-0 run.

AUM will return home for its final two games of the 2024 calendar year this weekend, beginning Thursday against Union. Tip-off at the AUM Athletics Complex is at 7:30 p.m.
