CLINTON, Miss. – Auburn University at Montgomery Women's Basketball (3-6, 1-3) fell in overtime 77-73 at Mississippi College (7-3, 3-1) in overtime, Monday afternoon.
The Warhawks outscored the Lady Choctaws 28-20 in the fourth quarter after being down 10 in the third quarter. Overall, AUM shot 42% from the field and just 60% at the free throw line.
Samya Brooks led the way for the Warhawks with 20 points and 15 of those in the first half.
Allasha Dudley added 23 points with 13 in the fourth.
Trinity Hambright also added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Her first career double double.
A back and forth first quarter that featured three lead changes ended with Mississippi College ahead 22-18. Both teams were shooting at a very high clip, Warhawks 57% and Lady Choctaws at 81%. Brooks got into double figures early with 10 points in the quarter.
AUM was able to capture a lead midway through the second quarter with an 8-2 run but would go into the half down one, 32-31. The Warhawks shot 48% in the first half and outscored the Lady Choctaws 22-10 in the paint.
Gabby Litvak's second three-pointer tied the game in the third quarter at 34. An 8-0 Mississippi College run gave them a 48-40 lead headed into the fourth. The Warhawks were held scoreless the final three minutes of the quarter.
The Lady Choctaws kept the momentum to open the fourth quarter and grabbed their biggest lead of the game of 10, 52-42. AUM would then go on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to just one point around the 5-minute mark. Hambright's layup gave the Warhawks their first lead since early in the third quarter. She would score nine fourth quarter points while Dudley added 13.
Mississippi College would knock down a three to tie the game with just 3 second left to send the game to overtime. In overtime, the Lady Choctaws would hold on for the victory in what was a 45-minute battle until the end.
AUM will return home and host a pair of conference game with Union and Christian Brothers.
