No. 27 Warhawks Sweep Senior Day Doubleheader Against West Florida

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team used a walk-off win in game one and a five-RBI effort from Ashton Thomas in game two of the doubleheader to sweep the University of West Florida on Senior Day at Q.V. Lowe Field.

The sweep marks the second consecutive weekend that AUM has swept the doubleheader to win the series. It also helped AUM clinch its eighth Gulf South Conference series victory in nine tries.

GM 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • UWF took a 3-0 lead on a three-run home run.
  • Kasey Clark hit an RBI single and scored on an error, and RH Frankland broke up a double play to drive in a run and tie the game 3-3 after one frame.
  • Clark's sacrifice fly in the second put AUM up 4-3, but UWF immediately answered with a two-run single to take the lead back 5-4.
  • A Frankland solo home run and a Tyrese Rooks sac fly put AUM up 6-5 after three innings.
  • The Argos put together a three-run fourth to take an 8-6 lead.
  • Zach Dew smacked a game-tying two-run homer in the sixth, and Rooks singled home two more runs as AUM stormed back in front 10-8.
  • Frankland hit his second homer of the game, Hayden Grier turned in an RBI triple, and Rokoks added another run-scoring single as AUM took a 13-8 lead into the ninth inning.
  • The Argos sent 10 men to the plate in the top of the ninth inning and scored five runs to tie the game 13-13.
  • Dew singled through the left side with two outs and Frankland was hit by a pitch to put runners on second and third in the bottom of the ninth.
  • Wright tallied a game-winning RBI single to second base, as Dew slid home to score the winning run.
GM 1 ON THE MOUND 
  • Clay Slagle logged three-plus innings and allowed eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts. 
  • Brett PItts fired four shutout innings of relief. He scattered four hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
  • Grant Hickman fired a scoreless eighth inning and logged 1.1 innings with four walks and a strikeout. 
  • Michael Myers allowed a hit but got the final two outs in the top of the ninth frame and picked up the win.
GM 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  •  UWF again jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but a crooked second inning pushed AUM back in front.
  • Jarren Wright added an RBI single to get the Warhawks on the board, Ashton Thomas smoked a grand slam to right field, and Clark added an RBI double as AUM led 6-3.
  • The Argos immediately responded with two runs in the third and one in the fourth to tie the game at 6-6 after innings.
  • Thomas' fifth-inning RBI double scored the go-ahead run in the fifth frame, while Frankland and Wright added RBIs in the sixth inning to help AUM to a 9-6 win.
GM 2 ON THE MOUND 
  • Payte Williams allowed four earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in four innings.
  • Michael Myers grabbed his second win of the day with three shutout relief innings. He allowed one hit and struck out one hitter.
NOTABLES
  • Clark and Frankland extended their team-leading reached-base streak to 18 games.
  • Rooks tallied multiple hits in two games over the weekend, stretching his team lead in that category to 20 games.
  • Frankland homered twice in game one of the doubleheader, which is the second time an AUM player has homered twice in a game.
  • Clark's two doubles take him to 45 for his career, which ties him with Bruce Alter (2007-2010) for the top mark in school history in that category. 
  • On Senior Day, Myers collected two wins to move to 5-0 on the season.

  • "What a Senior Day for these young men," said head coach Franklin Bush. "These guys have grinded day in and day out for a day like that. Thankful for each and every one of them. They are setting a foundation that will last a lifetime. We are chomping at the bit to get back to work on Monday. We'll learn from this weekend and continue to work towards our best baseball.   • The Warhawks host Albany State University on Tuesday, April 23 at 3 p.m. at Q.V. Lowe Field in an important south region contest.
