PLAYOFF PREVIEW: GSC Championships Begin Saturday For Women's Tennis

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team is set to begin play in the 2024 Gulf South Conference Championships at Lagoon Park on Saturday, April 27 at 2:30 p.m. against the No. 6 seed University of Montevallo. 

The Warhawks roll into postseason play with a 16-5 overall record and finished 8-2 in the GSC. This will be the second time this season that the two teams have met as AUM took the first matchup on April 12 7-0.

GSC IN THE NCAA SOUTH REGION RANKINGS
  • The Warhawks enter postseason ranked No. 7 in the NCAA South Regional Rankings. The University of West Alabama sits at No. 6, while Valdosta State University and University of West Florida is at No. 9 and No. 10.

FIVE ON THE WARHAWKS
  • Estefania Garcia is 16-5 overall in singles at the top court and is 7-3 in her last 10 matches. Garcia has produced a 16-5 record in doubles at the first court as well. 
  • Regina Urbiola has been strong late in the season with a 7-1 record in singles on the third and four courts. She is 6-1 against GSC competition. 
  • Ana Villalvazo has posted a 15-3 record in singles action at the second and third courts. She is 8-2 against GSC teams. 
  • Garcia and Ane Ibarra have posted a 16-5 record in doubles on the first court. 
  • Nahia Izco and Villalvazo are 15-3 in doubles on court three. 
FIVE ON THE FALCONS
  • London Breedlove sports an 11-8 record in singles action and has appeared at courts 2-5 this season. She is 6-4 in her last 10 matches. 
  • Johanna Kullman is 11-6 in singles on courts 3-6 for the Falcons. 
  • Klara Podskubkova and Lieselotte Hartlohner have earned eight wins in doubles this season. 
  • The Falcons are 9-10 overall and finished the GSC slate going 4-6. 
  • The Falcons were eliminated by the Warhawks in last season's GSC Tournament by a final score of 4-1. Montevallo has reached the GSC tournament four season's in a row.
