PLAYOFF PREVIEW: Men's Tennis Begins GSC Championships Saturday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery is locked in as the No. 3 seed in the Gulf South Conference Tournament which begins on Saturday, April 27 at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Alabama. 
 
The Warhawks will play the No. 6 seed University of West Alabama at 10 a.m. in the first round.

GSC IN THE NCAA SOUTH REGION RANKINGS
  • The Warhawks are ranked No. 8 in the latest edition of the NCAA South Regional Rankings and the GSC has multiple teams ranked. Valdosta State University is sitting at No. 2 and University of West Florida is No. 4. Lee is at No. 9, while Mississippi College is No. 10. 
CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

FIVE ON THE WARHAWKS
  • AUM has made the GSC Tournament four years in a row and brings in a 13-8 overall record and finished 7-2 in the GSC slate. 
  • Adrian Contreras went 15-4 in singles on the third and fourth court, but primarily at the third court. 
  • Joao Guariente played all 19 of his matches at the first court and went 9-10 overall with a 4-4 record against GSC opponents. 
  • Alex Verdasco went 13-3 in singles action on the back three courts and played most of his matches on court five going 9-3. 
  • Contreras and Titouan Le Maout went 12-2 in doubles and an impressive 8-0 on the second court. 
FIVE ON THE TIGERS
  • The Tigers roll into the conference tournament with a 7-12 record, and they finished the GSC at 4-5. 
  • West Alabama will be playing in their 12th consecutive appearance in the GSC Tournament. 
  • Lucas Hammond has played on court one for all his matches and sports a 7-11 record and finished 3-6 in GSC matches. 
  • Wilson Igbinovia played on court two this season and went 4-3 in GSC matches and 8-7 overall. 
  • The doubles team of Hammond and Jacob Topia have been solid with a 9-4 overall record and 6-2 in GSC games.
