MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The AUM women's volleyball team went 1-1 in its first two matches of the Barry Invitational at the HPE Complex on Friday.
The Warhawks defeated Virginia State, 3-1, before falling to Barry, 3-1. AUM will face Edward Waters on Saturday at 1:15 pm Central Time.
Maya Thompson had 23 kills on 58 swings to lead the Warhawks. Defensively,
Carly Cooper had 19 digs and the team combined for seven team blocks.
Match 1: AUM 3, Virginia State 1
AUM used a strong comeback in the third set to propel the squad to a 25-23, 13-25, 25-23, 25-17 win over the Trojans. The Warhawks hit just .134 overall but hit their stride in the third and fourth sets, producing at a .265 and .235 clip, respectively. Thompson and
Emily Brown finished with double-digit kills to lead the offense.
Campbell Gash had 23 assists with
Savannah Sebek adding 17.
Match 3: Barry 3, AUM 0
Barry hit .479 to come away with a 25-14, 25-14, 25-15 win in their first match of the day. Thompson led the Warhawks with eight kills. The team finished with 22. Gash had 10 assists and four digs, matching Cooper with four digs.
