Paul Lanzi scored a career-high 31 points and was again strong from the outside, but the AUM men's basketball team fell to Trevecca Nazarene, 88-76, at the TNU Fieldhouse on Saturday.
Lanzi hit for double figures for the seventh time in the last eight games and made at least two 3-pointers for the eighth time this season. On Saturday, he connected on 11-of-19 overall and 4-of-8 from outside.
Jamir Williams and Chapelle Whitney each had 11 for the Warhawks and combined for 11 rebounds.
AUM (8-10, 5-8 Gulf South) made 41 percent of its shots but was 10-of-22 at the free throw line.
Trevecca (14-5, 9-4) shot 54 percent and saw five players reach double figures, led by Jikari Johnson with 18. The leading 3-point shooter in the league with Lanzi, Johnson was 3-for-8 from outside while grabbing six rebounds and blocking two shots.
The Trojans held a 45-35 rebounding edge and connected on 14-of-16 at the free throw line.
Saturday's game went back and forth for the opening 13 minutes before Trevecca moved the lead to double digits with a 12-2 run. The Trojans led by 14 at the break and by 21 twice in the second half. AUM battled back to within 10 but was unable to get any closer.
AUM will return to Montgomery to face Delta State and Mississippi College next week for Homecoming. The homestand begins on Thursday against the Statesmen at 7:30 p.m. with Greek Night.
