AUM Succumbs to Montevallo on the Road

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball team (2-15, GSC: 1-8) dropped a three-set match to the University of Montevallo Falcons (9-11, GSC: 6-4) in a Gulf South Conference match on Thursday evening from Central State Bank Arena.

Senior Kendall McCain hit a major career milestone tonight, competing in her 100th match as a Warhawk. The achievement places her at the top of the program's record book and makes her the only player in AUM volleyball history to appear in triple-digit matches.

McCain marked the occasion with her fourth double-double of the season, leading the Warhawks with a match-high 15 kills and 12 digs.

Montevallo saw Katie Wilkerson with 10 kills on a .348 attack percentage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
Montevallo opened the match with a 6-1 lead after two kills by Danielle Greene, but AUM rallied to make it an 8-6 deficit after Elise Fulgham and McCain each had a kill.

After earning the side out on the ensuing point, the Falcons used another 6-3 run to swell the lead to 14-9 as they cruised to the 25-17 opening set win.

Set 2
Trailing 7-3 early, AUM saw kills by McCain and Fulgham and blocks by Jaslyn Montgomery and Emily Brown to flip the lead to the visitors, 11-10, thanks to an 8-3 run.

Montevallo tried to pull ahead, as they were the first to 20 and had a 21-17 lead. Later, AUM posted kills by Anyaliz Rodriguez and McCain to make it 24-23.

With Carly Cooper behind the line, she dropped a service ace to even the score at 24 and force lingering death. Unfortunately, the Falcons used a service error on the next point to get the side out and a block by Kate Wilkin and Blakeley Robbins to take set two, 26-24.

After AUM totaled nine kills to start the match, they came to life in the second set with 16, including eight from McCain.

Set 3
The set stayed competitive early, but five straight points by the Falcons to take a 14-14 tie to a 19-14 lead for the home squad.

Despite kills from Courtney Joseph and Rodriguez kill, Montevallo kept the momentum the rest of the way, as the Falcons ended the set on a 4-0 run to win the set, 25-18, and take the match in three sets.
